I recently ordered a mystery box called the baby guy box. This box is pretty awesome no matter the theme but the theme I ordered was the Eco friendly box. Had a few Earth friendly products two of which was cloth diapers. We didn't cloth diaper for several reasons being too lazy, knowing nothing about it, and because I was going back to work and my sitter probably wouldn't want to use cloth diapers. Now that I've decided to stay at home and I got the two diapers in the box I think I'm going to try it. Have you ever looked at a website for cloth diapers. They have all kinds of cute prints and bright colors. I have no clue how I will ever keep myself under control.
We are starting a little slow he went through two cloth diapers yesterday. Then for night time we used a disposable diaper. I like the cloth and how they kept the moisture off of him. My husband seems to think that I won't be able to keep up with the laundry that comes with it. I get where he is coming from, I have two laundry baskets of clothes that needs folded and a dryer that needs to be emptied, but I do enjoy proving him wrong.
A couple things to know about cloth diapering. There are a bunch of different brands. The best I can figure is you just got to try them out. I liked the hybrid diaper from Grovia with a no prep insert. I only have one of those but can see myself buying a couple more. There are also several different types of inserts, including disposable. I started my diaper and insert collection by going to a local resale shop. I saved a bunch of money by buying the diapers there and they are still in great shape. I'm not sure if they are used or not because they look pretty new. I've started my collection with ten diaper covers and about 16 inserts. I've mainly got pocket diapers, where you put the insert in the little pocket. I bought two where the insert is already in them.
The biggest thing about the cloth diapers is the laundry routine. You need a wet bag or a pail liner to store the dirty diapers in until you are ready to wash. Make sure you take the insert out of the diaper. Then it seems that everyone starts the laundry by doing just a plain cold rinse and spin cycle. Then they will run a hot or warm full wash with laundry detergent. Out of all the videos I watched everyone seems to like to use oxi clean with their detergent. After your full wash cycle you can run another rinse and spin. I saw one video where a lady used vinegar during the last rinse and spin. To dry the diapers put the inserts in the dryer on a low heat. The diaper shells should be line dry to extend their life, but others put them in the dryer with the inserts and don't really see a difference.
The main thing that I see with cloth diapers is you just gotta figure out what is best for you. You can be given the basic ingredients but you got to figure out your own system. I'm trying to figure out mine without going too overboard and getting so overwhelmed that I quit before I start.
